The new Mühlbachsteg replaces an existing bridge structure, the so-called Rialto Bridge in Diessen, which no longer meets the requirements, is not barrier-free and is structurally badly damaged. At 4.30 m, the new bridge is significantly wider than the existing bridge, can now be used by pedestrians and cyclists and meets accessibility requirements. The robust and durable reinforced concrete construction with its sophisticated design swings light-footedly over the Mühlbach with little curvature. A slender reinforced concrete slab, which is supported by a reinforced concrete arch below, forms the walkway and roadway. With a constant construction height of 20 cm, the arch has a variable width in plan. The bridge structure was founded on bored piles on both sides of the river bank due to the low load-bearing capacity of the subsoil. The bridge superstructure and the bridge abutments are designed as a jointless integral construction.
