St. Stephanus Church, the visitor center, and the town hall design together form the center of Westerheim. The layout of the new town hall creates a clear location within the urban space that preserves existing pathways. A slight twist toward the church opens up the south side along the church wall, creating an outdoor space with a pleasant atmosphere. Wood is the primary material used for all rising parts of the supporting structure, columns, walls, and ceilings. Thanks to the materiality, it is possible to create a highly heat-insulating building envelope in passive house quality. The planned construction method allows for a high degree of prefabrication at the factory with components that are easy to transport, which results in significant time and material savings.
