Schüco Parametric System

Munich BAU 2015

The Parametric System is a system facade with which individually designed facade geometries can be implemented. The system consists of individual modules that can be adapted to the geometry of the building envelope. Based on parametric design tools, the implementation takes place in a digital process chain from design to planning and production. When designing the façade, parameters such as solar radiation or light deflection can be specifically controlled and the individual surfaces can be designed to meet the respective requirements. The system of insulating glass panes, tubular frames and element frames also allows the integration of shading and ventilation elements.

The insulating glass panes are connected via a load-bearing adhesive to an adapter profile, which is screwed to the load-bearing tubular frame construction of the facade element. All loads acting on the insulating glazing, including its own weight, are borne solely by the bonding; no emergency holders or other mechanical safety devices are provided.

Due to the complex geometry, which includes a large number of different element sizes and shapes, load assumptions and design fundamentals for the static checks could not be determined in the usual way. Instead, a special parametric software was developed, which determines the decisive load cases and element geometries for the facade system from a large number of different geometry variants and their extreme dimensions.

The prototype of this parametrically engineered system was exhibited at BAU 2015 in Munich. The free-standing construction has a height of 6.30 m and a maximum width of 7.36 m with a basic width of 5.00 m.
