The new three-storey building for the 6-group children's home in Tübinger Straße in Filderstadt-Bernhausen is designed as a timber-concrete hybrid construction. In addition to the group, staff and sanitary rooms, the new building includes a spacious, column-free multi-purpose room on the first floor and a large exercise room on the first and second floors. Surrounded by play and green areas, the building has a rectangular floor plan with two recessed corners over the entire height of the building. The upper storeys are cantilevered above the entrance, which is also recessed, to create a covered area.
The storey ceilings are single-axis wood-concrete composite ceilings, the roof ceiling is a pure wooden ceiling. The edges of the ceiling are reinforced by glulam beams that are integrated into the window sills and parapet. Above the column-free area of the multi-purpose and movement room, high-performance composite beams with minimized construction heights are integrated into the timber construction at certain points. The vertical load transfer takes place via cross-laminated timber walls and columns made of glulam. The stairwell, the elevator core, two wall panels in the area of the building overhang above the entrance and the foundation are made of reinforced concrete.
