The new building is an open vehicle hall for the German Armed Forces, intended for parking vehicles. The vehicle hall is closed on three sides and open at the front towards the apron. The ground plan dimensions of the building are approx. 150.4 m x 14.4 m, the building height is approx. 7.5 m. The structure is of steel construction, the substructure, consisting of a floor slab and shallow foundations, is of reinforced concrete construction. A wide-span, upward-projecting lattice girder at the front allows for a spacious, column-free entrance area and significantly shapes the appearance of the vehicle hall. In the depth direction, single-hip frames span between the truss girder and the rear wall and support the roof cladding. The hall is stiffened in the longitudinal and transverse directions by means of frame load-bearing action or clamping of the columns. The building envelope and the cladding of the lattice girder are made of translucent polycarbonate multiwall sheets. The use of the translucent, industrially manufactured sheet material for the closed façade areas enables good interior lighting and homogeneous light diffusion.
