The planned new building for the elementary school in Wilnsdorf will be constructed on a previously undeveloped steep hillside site and will blend in with the landscape. This will create an almost optimal ratio between excavation and backfill with regard to the required earthworks. The building is being constructed using a sustainable hybrid construction method of timber and concrete. This targeted use of materials according to their characteristic properties results in an ecological and economical construction method.

With regard to the requirements for robustness and durability, the basement, which is buried in the ground, and the internal parts of the supporting structure are made of reinforced concrete. The jointless solid construction method results in a high-performance, robust and low-maintenance structure. The design of all ceiling slabs as reinforced concrete ceilings offers advantages over pure timber ceilings in terms of comfort of use, in particular sound transmission and vibration behavior.
In addition to conventional reinforced concrete flat ceilings, prefabricated ribbed ceilings made of reinforced concrete are also used as ceiling slabs. Wood is used for all external parts of the structure that are not in contact with the ground, as well as for the roof/upper floor. Timber is a very light, sustainable building material with excellent structural properties and enables the construction of a highly thermally insulating building envelope in passive house quality.
