Located in Berlin-Friedrichshain, right next to the Mercedes-Benz Arena, is the “STREAM Tower,” which serves as an office and conference building.
The firm seele was commissioned to handle the detailed design and construction of the building envelope—covering approximately 13,000 m²—for the 97.5-meter-tall building. Engelsmann Peters, acting as a subcontractor, was responsible for the structural engineering of the modular facade.
The building’s floor plans, which vary from floor to floor, provide users with a high proportion of open space and are a key feature of the design. The façade design is based on a large number of individual element types, each of which was tailored to the respective loads and dimensions.
A distinctive feature of the project was the large-format elements, with widths of up to 2.70 m and heights ranging from 3.20 m to 5.20 m. In some areas, the aluminum frame elements incorporate reinforcing profiles that were integrated into the aluminum frames in a way that makes them invisible.
The points where the facade connects to the building, as well as the joints between the elements—which are staggered from floor to floor—were developed and optimized in close collaboration with seele.
The corner elements and the fastening systems for the cantilevered architectural elements also required special structural attention.
