Friedrich-Ebert-School gym

Pfungstadt

The new three-court sports hall of the Friedrich Ebert School in Pfungstadt, Hesse, is located in a heterogeneous suburban area in the immediate vicinity of the school building. The façades open to the east and west, while the north and south façades are closed and shield the interior from the commercial areas. The roof structure is formed by a total of 6 three-legged frames with bay spans of around 29.0 m in the middle and 8.0 m at the projecting edge bays. Diagonals are arranged in the roof plane between the paired frames in order to achieve a slab load-bearing effect of the roof. The frames themselves are made of welded steel box sections and their shape and material thickness have been adapted to the static loads. The stems and transoms merge seamlessly into one another. Between these main structural elements, cross girders made of standard rolled sections span the three hall sections, each with a span of around 12.0 m and a distance of around 4.0 m between them. These cross beams are guided downwards around the corners at the edges of the building and also form part of the façade support structure. Bracing is provided by the longitudinal and transverse frames and the roof bracing. The basement, in which the playing fields and various ancillary rooms are located, was built in reinforced concrete
