The BERT shelving system developed for Berger consists of modular, coordinated components. The design of the elements as a plug-in system enables simple assembly and combination to create multi-storey shelving systems up to 8 m high. A tested structural analysis was developed for the system, which should enable it to be used for a wide range of applications.

The shelving system consists of 526 mm deep shelving bays, each with 10 steel shelves. The bayed shelving units form a shelving train and are stabilized lengthwise by bracing diagonals on the back of every 5th bay. A shelf bay braced by cross braces can stabilize a maximum of 4 further shelf bays. Stabilization in the transverse direction is provided by the frame load-bearing effect of the uprights and depth ledgers. Aisles are located at the front of the racks at a height of 2.66 m.
