The roofing of the ZOB Pforzheim is divided into three structurally independent sections, each of which is built according to the same structural principle. The supporting structure of the roofing was designed in steel construction and consists of the main elements support and girder grid. The positioning of the supports is coordinated with the traffic planning and the use of the areas under the roof. The maximum prop spacing is 15 m in longitudinal direction and 9.6 m in transverse direction. The non-directional support grids of the individual roof elements fold downwards on the north side and form wall surfaces as a demarcation to the railway tracks. Striking design elements are the differently sized light eyes that open up in roof and wall surfaces.
Beams and supports form a multi-span frame system in both directions. The primary supporting structure of the roof slab consists of support grids, whose support panels run along the two main directions. The supports are arranged below the intersections of the two sets of beams and are rigidly connected to the beams by a cross-shaped cross-section. They are shaped according to the moment loads and expand upwards in a funnel shape. The base points of the supports are articulated in both directions and - depending on the ground conditions - designed as shallow or deep foundations. The girder spacings of the roof and wall panels were selected in such a way that no additional secondary beams were necessary for the envelope construction made of trapezoidal sheet metal. The support grids of the wall areas are supported on strip foundations in the floor area.
