Westerheim Town Hall
Westerheim
St. Stephanus Church, the visitor center, and the design for City Hall together form the town center of Westerheim. The layout of the new City Hall establishes a clear sense of place within the urban fabric while preserving existing pedestrian routes. A slight rotation toward the church creates an opening along the church wall facing south, resulting in an outdoor space that is inviting and pleasant to spend time in. Wood is the primary material used for all vertical elements of the structural system—columns, walls, and ceilings. Thanks to this material choice, the building envelope can be designed to provide high thermal insulation in accordance with Passive House standards. The planned construction method allows for a high degree of factory prefabrication using components that are easy to transport, resulting in significant savings in both time and materials.
