Based on the need to reduce emissions caused by the construction industry, this article examines the Graz lightweight reinforced concrete construction method as a concept for reducing material usage in solid construction. Concrete 3D printing is used as an additive manufacturing process, enabling the production of formwork elements that are incorporated into the reinforced concrete components as permanent formwork, thereby minimizing material consumption. The results presented from various large-scale tests demonstrate how this construction method can be successfully applied in accordance with standards. Finally, the practical applicability of the Graz lightweight reinforced concrete construction method is demonstrated through three projects that have already been implemented.
